Little Moo ice cream trike hits the streets

Spread the love

An ice cream business from Bedminster, Bristol has launched the UK’s most environmentally friendly mobile ice cream unit.

Little Moo, which is operated largely on pedal power, will be selling locally-made Chew Moo’s ice cream (which is made in Dundry) across Bath and Bristol this summer.

The ice cream trike, affectionately nicknamed Trixie and which sports a pink and white cow-print livery, is the brainchild of Vee Double Moo owner Bridget Pilkington who started selling ice cream, frozen yogurt, hot chocolate and cupcakes from a converted 1973 VW campervan last year.

With an emphasis on locally sourced and organic ingredients, Vee Double Moo has proven popular at many of Bristol’s outdoor events and now regularly trades at Brandon Hill Park too. Using the knowledge she has gained and her enduring passion for all things dairy, Pilkington who lives in Bedminster, believes Little Moo will help to bring even more top quality, locally-made ice cream to the city’s residents. And, in line with the company’s ethos, it is possible to do it with a minimal environmental impact.

“Chew Moo’s ice cream is made on a farm about 5 miles from Bristol and all of the cream and milk is supplied by their own herd of Guernsey cows. I loved the fact it was both local and delicious and I thought it would be great to find a way to make it more accessible and in coming up with the idea for Little Moo, which is pedalled from Moo HQ around the city, we’ve been able to create a mobile ice cream unit with what we understand to be the smallest carbon footprint and the lowest number of food miles in the UK,” said Ms Pilkington.

Little Moo is set to become a regular feature across many of the area’s smaller markets, such as the Tobacco Factory market, the new StrEat Friday evening market at Green Park Station, Bath, as well as various public and private events, such as weddings and street parties

The distinctive ice cream trike will stock a range of flavours from Chew Moo’s,  whic h has established a reputation for its innovative favourites such as Elderberry Ripple, Whisky & Ginger and Banoffee.
