Brian Wogan Coffee is launching a beverage-come-dessert just in time for summer in the form of the traditional Italian union of espresso and ice cream. This delicious treat is called ‘Wogan Affogato’, which translates as ‘drowning’ in Italian and consists of a shot of hot, creamy espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream. Some of Bristol’s finest delis and cafes will be serving Wogan Affogato throughout summer using Brian Wogan Bristol-roasted fresh coffee and locally sourced ice cream.

You can now get a Wogan Affogato all over Bristol; Cafe du Jour on Whiteladies Road, and The Daily Bite on Victoria Street will be serving up this delicious treat using new local ice cream producer Chew Moos. Chew Moos ice cream is made on a family farm on the top of Dundry Hill near Bristol using premium Channel Island milk and cream.

Wogan Affogato will also be available in all branches of Chandos Deli who will be using award-winning premium Somerset ice cream Mendip Moments, and Meme Chocolate Clifton will be serving Wogan Affogato with Marshfield Ice-Cream, another great local brand!

Adrian Wogan, Managing Director of Brian Wogan coffee said “When my daughter returned from Italy recently, all she spoke about was the beautiful affogato she indulged in whilst she was there.  It seemed rude not to replicate it and serve it with my coffee and local ice cream to the great people of Bristol”!

The Bird Table in Coldharbour Road have invented their own yummy version with ice-cream rolled in nuts.

If you are a fan of iced coffee drinks or coffee ice cream, Wogan Affogato is perfect for you. Unlike iced coffee, the goal of an affogato is to keep the original taste and form of each ingredient. The simple mixture of hot, dark and strong espresso coffee with the sweet, creamy texture of the ice cream is what makes an affogato different. The pleasure in it is the contrast in hot and cold and, bitter and sweet and of course the indulgent puddle of espresso flavoured melted ice cream at the bottom.

Brian Wogan Coffee is the South West’s largest independent coffee roaster and has been in operation for 42 years supplying tea and coffee to a wide range of cafes, restaurants and bars in Bristol. They are a truly local, family business whose fresh coffee is roasted on the edge of the city centre. The roastery, situated at the bottom of the M32 is responsible for the gorgeous coffee smell wafting through Cabot Circus  – you can often smell Brian Wogan HQ before you see it!

To have a go at creating the Wogan Affogato at home, simply log on to the online shop at www.wogan-coffee.co.uk, buy some Brian Wogan coffee then pair it with your favourite local ice cream – enjoy!
