At 12pm on Friday, October 2nd, new Asian super diner Four Wise Monkeys will officially be opening in the former home of Pata Negra.
The new venue comes from the team of Nathan Lee, Jason Mead and Kevin Stokes, known for creating much-loved Bristol establishments like Bambalan, Hyde & Co, The Ox, The Milk Thistle and, most recently, Seven Lucky Gods at Wapping Wharf. Four Wise Monkeys is the latest brand for the team and is inspired by the Japanese izakaya style that has proven popular at Seven Lucky Gods since opening in May 2019. They describe the new venture as “Asian folklore meets retro 80s Tokyo vibes”.
Alongside an exciting weekend brunch offering, you’ll find a menu of snacks and small plates (including Eatchu gyoza), sandos and buns, large plates (noodle dishes, kimchi fried rice and ox cheek rendang) and a small selection of sides. The award-winning bartenders behind the drinks menus at Hyde & Co and The Milk Thistle have also created an exciting cocktail menu – I love the sound of the “Dance of the Drunk Mantis”, with Havana 3 Rum, mint, white chocolate, pandan and matcha!
Speaking about the new opening, founder Nathan Lee said, “Whilst authentic Spanish tapas still has a place in our hearts, we’ve always been fans of Asian cooking & culture and when we launched Seven Lucky Gods last year we were blown away by the response. We wanted to open something in a similar style but bigger, and our venue on Corn Street really fits the bill. Cooking in a shipping container at Wapping Wharf does limit what we can serve, so with a larger kitchen at Four Wise Monkeys we’ll be able to produce loads of exciting new Pan Asian fusion dishes alongside some old SLG favourites that Covid has forced us to remove from the menu at present.”
Four Wise Monkeys officially opens at 12pm on Friday, October 2nd. All-day dining will then be available from 12pm to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12pm to 9pm on Sundays. Their brunch offering begins on October 10th and will be served each weekend from 10am to 1pm, and will be accompanied by DJs who will also be spinning tunes from 5pm to 10pm every Thursday to Saturday evening.
