Our favourite food and drink April Fools 2019!

April Fools 2019
Spread the love

I remember, as a kid, scouring the newspapers that we had delivered on April 1st, looking for the one advert that was an April Fools joke. Social media wasn’t around back then – but now we’re bombarded with April 1st pranks from brands galore across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

This year’s no different – here’s a round-up of some of the spoof new products I’ve found this April Fools 2019! I’ll keep adding to the list as I find more!

New drinks…

Pink gin’s a bit of a thing at the moment, so Fireball announced the launch of their “Pointlessly Pink” beverage to poke fun at the trend. Talking of gin, Pinkster Gin’s Pinkster Phizz tablets – effervescent tablets for an on-the-go Pinkster fix – would probably go down pretty well…

Meanwhile, Celtic Marches Beverages heralded the arrival of their Banana Split Cider, made with Herefordshire-grown bananas, and baby food brand Ella’s Kitchen posted news of their fruity cocktail pouches for adults, with names like “The Milk Drunk One”.

Great news from Boë Gin, too, who now have an auto-refill button built into every bottle – you’ll never run out of gin again…

Looking for mixers instead? Try the smashed avocado tonic from Lixir Tonic…or maybe the new Sweetcorn Relish, Ranch Dressing or Pickle Soda soft drinks from Soda Folk.

Hot drink lovers will enjoy the new “flat water” from Cafe2U UK, while Beanies Flavour Coffee have unveiled how they actually infuse coffee plants with flavourings while they grow. Or, if you have a pod-based coffee machine, try the new strawberry jelly pods that mugpods advertised…

Sweet vs. Savoury…

Many of the food and drink April Fools that we see from year to year revolve around a savoury food/drink turning sweet, or vice versa. Like Halo Top’s new low-calorie fish and chip flavoured ice cream, or the new broccoli edition of Weetabix, helping you to eat more veg.

Or why not try the new Sunday Supper lozenge from Fisherman’s Friend, or breakfast on Full English Honey Monster Puffs? For the kids, there’s also the new Broccoli Peelers from Fruit Bowl…

Taste Inc are known for their chicken snacks and proclaimed that they’d be launching a new tutti frutti flavour, and the April 1st new flavours from Popcorn Shed included Sourdough & Charcoal, and Hot Menthol.

On Facebook, Butterkist announced their new avocado-flavoured popcorn, and Frylight’s new chocolate-flavoured low-calorie cooking spray would probably be pretty good for pancakes and the like!

Mallow & Marsh’s Marshmite would no doubt actually be a hit in real life…as would the chocolate oven chips that McCain posted about on April 1st…

Sweet treats…

Brexit is top of everybody’s mind – including ice cream brand oppo, whose new trio of Brexit-themed frozen delights has names such as “Rum & Referendum”. Tiptree’s Hot Cross Bun Conserve is definitely something I’d buy if it were real, and Yorkshire Tea Spreadable too!

One of my favourites this year, though, has to be from Walkers Shortbread…with Walkers Tallbread designed for “the loftiest of biscuit lovers”.

Diversification…

You’ve got to love it when a food or drink brand diversifies out into a new market. That’s what Spoiltpig are doing with their new bacon-flavoured toothpaste, and Glen Moray Distillery with their Eau de Moray fragrance line.

Horlicks, meanwhile, shared their malty, comforting scented candle, and The Biscuit Baron claimed to be including Bonios in their next biscuit subscription box.

The Collective have announced a range of yoghurts for pets, you can now get a Chicken Tonight-scented car air freshener…and if you’re a real cheese fiend, try these new Belton Farm cheese bath bombs…

…and the rest…

Want to grow your own coffee tree at home? You can, with Miles Tea & Coffee’s new coffee seeds! Looking to break up with a partner or tell an admirer you’re not interested? You need Sour Hearts, from Love Hearts.

Posh up your pot pasta with the Lobster and Caviar pasta from Mug Shot…and if you’ve ever wondered how blue cheese is made, Dorset Blue Vinny have the answer…
