As of Monday, September 24th, the Bristol Old Vic will be home to a brand new bar and restaurant in the form of 1766 Bar & Kitchen.
1766 Bar & Kitchen will be open seven days a week from 8am till late, serving up everything from morning coffees to pre-show three-course meals and cocktails.
The menus have been created with seasonality in mind, with head chef Coco Barone (formerly of Glassboat and Rosemarino, among others) using ingredients from top South West producers to create a range of dining options that will change regularly.
Sample menus can be seen on the 1766 Bar & Kitchen website. Their all-day menu includes breakfast dishes: everything from a full English to the Hail Halloumi (£8.95), which sounds epic: halloumi fries with smashed avocado, rose petal & hazelnut dukkha and roasted cherry tomatoes on turmeric chilli bread.
The all-day menu also includes cakes from Ahh Toots, a salad bar, sandwiches, salads and small plates priced either individually or at 3 for £12.95 – I love the sound of the polenta and parmesan chips with rosemary salt and aioli…
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a full dining experience, their lunch menu is priced at 3 courses for £17.95, and their dinner menu at 3 courses for £22.95. It’s a chance to try dishes such as bang-bang chicken thigh with sweetcorn, sesame and lime to start; crisp confit duck leg with rosti potato, Savoy cabbage, pickled quince and jus for your main; and a warming apple & blackberry crumble with stem ginger ice cream for dessert…
If you’re looking for somewhere new to enjoy a Sunday lunch, they’ll be doing that too: from 12pm to 3.30pm every Sunday. There will always be a choice of three roast meats and a vegan option on offer, served with duck fat, rosemary & garlic roasties, Yorkshire puddings, seasonal veg and gravy.
