Have you heard of Good Sixty? The online platform, which enables users to shop from the best of Bristol’s independent food retailers and producers, is looking to expand across the South West and into London. with a Crowdcube fundraising campaign.
Launched in Bristol in September 2016, Good Sixty‘s aim is to connect people with the city’s best independent food businesses. The website allows people to browse and buy from over 70 independents and have products delivered to their door, benefitting both retailers and shoppers: retailers enjoy additional revenue, while shoppers benefit from a convenient way to shop from some of Bristol’s best local food businesses.
Now, Good Sixty is aiming to raise £150,000 through fundraising platform Crowdcube, and under the government’s SEIS investment scheme. The funds will help the business to expand, and allow founders Chris Edwards and Jon Simon to enhance the website’s functionality.
The name Good Sixty comes from the fact that every pound you spend at a local independent store, café or producer has a 60% greater benefit to your local community than spending it with a large supermarket. Good Sixty’s business model means that city high streets are more likely to thrive, as well as contributing to creating wealthier, better-connected communities. Consumer demand for better, ethical, convenient food is at an all-time high and it has been proven time and again: shopping locally has a positive impact on our neighbourhoods, ploughing money back into the local economy and strengthening communities.
Take a look at the website and you’ll see that the owners of each food business listed are profiled, meaning users get to know their high street heroes. There’s a direct messaging function for clear and easy communication with individual retailers, and there’s also a ‘Click & Collect’ option for those who can’t guarantee they’ll be at home to receive deliveries.
The crowdfunding campaign (which you can see and contribute to here) will enable more retailers and producers to compete fairly online with the big players. The Good Sixty team say, “There are over 40,000 retailers across the UK that fit the Good Sixty model and all would benefit from being listed on the site. Collectively they are a force to be reckoned with as Good Sixty has the potential to bring them all together in one place online. This would connect them with new customers and allow their existing ones to shop from them more frequently.”
