Gloucester Road’s foodie credentials are set to grow even further, with new Italian-inspired restaurant Bomboloni set to open this June.

It’s a brand new venture from Bristol chef Andrew Griffin, whose background includes spells at Markwicks, Tart Café & Foodstore and Prego, and whose kitchen team will include both his wife Sara and his daughter Molly, who worked at a chef at The Stock Exchange Bakery after training at Bristol College.

225 Gloucester Road – most recently home to Biblos – will be the home of the Griffins’ new venture, which is named after a popular type of Italian doughnut, often filled with cream, chocolate ganache or salted caramel – and which, you’ll be pleased to know, will be made daily at Bomboloni. There will be plenty of other cakes and pastries on offer too, along with various breads that will be baked in the restaurant’s pizza oven.

The lunchtime offering will include seasonal salads, pizzette and a “bake of the day”, along with one pasta and one risotto dish daily that will change with the seasons.

From 5pm it’ll be all about the family, with arancini, pizzas and pasta & meatballs, while from 7pm, the charcoal grill will be switched on for ribeye steaks, grilled fish, marinated chicken, grilled vegetables and more.

We’re told that there will also be antipasti, polenta chips, garlic bread and loads of salads on offer, as well as a short wine list, Italian bottled beers, guest ales and a range of soft drinks.

From June (exact opening date to be confirmed), Bomboloni’s opening hours will be 9am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12pm to 4pm for Sunday lunch. Stay up to date with their plans (and some mouthwatering photos) by following the team on Twitter or Instagram.
