In summer we have plenty of great places that offer fabulous al fresco drinking spaces…but what about in the winter? Despite the fact that Bristol’s a large city, it still offers a number of drinking spots that feel more like cosy country pubs. Here’s our pick (and it’s our own personal opinion!) of our top five venues for cosy winter drinks in Bristol…

(NB. These are in no particular order, and may be updated at a later date…)

The Richmond, Gordon Road, Clifton

With two open fires, a decent selection of beers and spirits and a reputation for great Sunday roasts, The Richmond is a great warm and welcoming choice for winter drinks. When the weather’s warmer, their rooftop garden is great too…

The Rummer, All Saints Lane

The Rummer isn’t just known for its great food and amazing cocktail list – it’s known for its enormous stone fireplace too. The perfect place to warm up after a Broadmead/Cabot/St Nick’s shopping trip.

The Lion Tavern, Cliftonwood

Family-run pub The Lion Tavern is a great spot for winter not only thanks to the warmth of its open log fire, but also because of its top notch pub grub. Off the beaten track but worth a visit.

The Pipe & Slippers, Cheltenham Road

Grab an armchair by the open fire, relax with one of a great range of global beers, wines or ciders or try one of the signature cocktails at The Pipe & Slippers, and you’ll warm up in no time at all.

The Star & Dove, Totterdown

Downstairs at The Star & Dove you’ll find cosy fires, over 50 different bottled beers and ciders and some of the finest scotch eggs and sausage rolls in the world. Alternatively, sit outside when it’s cold and you’ll be able to take one of the pub blankets with you to keep out the chill.

Any suggestions as to other places you think should be included in our top 5? Let us know!
