A new pub for the centre of Bristol is set to open over the May Bank Holiday weekend. As the name suggests, The Christmas Steps will replace The Three Sugar Loaves at the bottom of Bristol’s most iconic street.
A joint venture from Dave Smeaton, whose business ventures include The Spotted Cow and The Big Chill Bar Bristol, and the people behind Crack Magazine and Simple Things Festival, The Christmas Steps is set to make a refreshing statement of quality for pub life in the centre of Bristol. Pooling their cultural knowledge and musical pedigree, The Christmas Steps will have a rich musical theme running throughout, epitomised by Crack Magazine’s content. Expect contemporary music-led photography, the weekly Crack Magazine music quiz, a frequently updated jukebox and the finest selectors the city can offer digging deep into their boxes for a rounded musical experience.
A full renovation will see the pub take on an entirely new guise with a focus on highlighting the pub’s amazing original features. With the building dating back to the 1600s, the exposed stone work and high ceiling beams will be brought back to their former glory, with the high windows allowing far more natural light and bringing a fuller, more expansive feel to the space.
The kitchen will be open every day for lunch and dinner offering dishes created with passion based on the principles of seasonal local produce. Affordable, quality pub classics alongside daily specials and of course a fantastic Sunday or Christmas Roast. Likewise the drinks selection has been carefully sourced with regularly changing cask ales and ciders including the award winning Arbor Ales, and an extensive spirits selection and wine list which boasts many bottles from small French vineyards.
With a 1am weekend licence and a newly refurbished garden set behind the pub’s rear entrance, the opportunity for late night drinking in a green, well furnished, heated inner-city environment will draw people in after work as well as late night revellers. A warm, beautifully decorated interior design style will compliment visual points of interest everywhere you look meaning the The Christmas Steps is set to offer you everything you love about going to the pub in a fresh, contemporary environment.
