The best kind of shed? A cake shed!

Spread the love

Most sheds are full of garden tools, plant pots, Christmas decorations and spiders. Well, that’s my experience, anyway.

Until recently…

Bury St Edmunds is home to not one, but TWO cake sheds, stuffed full of sweet treats for locals to buy and enjoy. While we haven’t yet visited The Hungry Baker’s offering, we HAVE visited The Cake Shed, owned and stocked by Gee Gee’s.

You’ll find Gee Gee’s at Bury St Edmunds market on Saturdays, serving up a range of cheesecakes and traybakes (plus delicious coffees) from a beautifully decorated trailer. You can also order online for collection, local delivery or postal delivery – or visit The Cake Shed, open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

There’s a post on the Gee Gee’s Facebook page with a postcode and directions – and without this, we definitely would have thought we were in the wrong place. Fortunately we spotted the A frame by the side of the main road, and drove down the narrow driveway in search of baked goods.

Fortunately there was space not only to park the car, but also to turn around when we were done. And there it was – The Cake Shed – a tiny building, maybe, but one that promised plenty of deliciousness…

It lived up to its promises. Step inside and you’ll find a fridge stocked with cheesecakes and a cabinet full of other bakes. There are bags and boxes for your purchases, eggs and olive oil for sale, and a 5* food hygiene sign displayed on the shelf at the top.

Check Gee Gee’s’ Instagram and Facebook stories daily to find out in advance which bakes are available on that particular day. Once you’ve chosen, scan the QR code on the wall to pay via your phone, then show the payment confirmation screen to the Ring doorbell beside it for proof of payment. Once you’re done, close the door behind you and you’re good to go.

All cakes are ÂŁ3.25 each, and we chose a selection of three to take home: the Oreo Swiss Roll Brownie, the Maltesers Millionaires, and the Cherry Bakewell Blondie.

All three were a hit. The Maltesers Millionaires had a great chocolate/caramel/biscuit ratio, while that Oreo Swiss Roll Brownie was decadently rich and took my son three days to get through! My Cherry Bakewell Blondie was a little underbaked in the centre, but I loved how dense and fudgy it was, and those Bakewell flavours came through beautifully.
