Montigo Resorts, Somerset, at Charlton House, has opened in Shepton Mallet: a historic 28-room country house hotel and spa with three restaurants and beautiful gardens.

Following its recent acquisition by KOP Limited, the hotel is described as “a discreet country retreat, with a relaxed, informal vibe”. Since purchasing the estate in March 2023, KOP Limited has invested heavily in improving the facilities at Charlton House, using local businesses and materials where possible.

The rooms at Montigo Resorts, Charlton House, are spread across the floors and grounds and feature a wealth of details from grand wood panelling and Mulberry furniture to neutral, modern suites with open rolltop bathtubs. The Courtyard Rooms feature mezzanine bathrooms and open out onto furnished, private patio spaces, and some also have exclusive late-night access to the spa pool and jacuzzi. The Garden Rooms have views across the lawns and flowerbeds. Room refurbishments are expected to be fully completed by Q1 2024.

There’s also a range of dining options on-site. The Charlton House Restaurant is set within the botanical conservatory and boasts a menu including Asian favourites and traditional afternoon teas. At Bobo’s Bistro you’ll find bistro classics like salads, an all-day brunch and a minute steak ciabatta, with menus changing with the seasons.

In the walled garden you’ll find TIIGO Bar & Grill: an al fresco BBQ diner where the Charlton House team showcases fresh meats, fish and vegetables, paired with soft drinks, beers, fine wines and local artisan ciders.

The pet-friendly and family-friendly hotel also features a variety of both indoor and outdoor events spaces – and there’s a new Charlton House Membership on offer, too. This includes access to the gym and the Montigo Spa, which offers thermal spa facilities and Asian massage treatments, using both local wellness products from Somerset and those from British skincare brand Elemis. There’s a sauna, a laconicum and a steam room too, with final spa refurbishments expected to be finished by early 2024.

Speaking at the opening, Ms Chih Ching ONG, Executive Chairman and Executive Director of KOP Limited, said: “We are thrilled to be introducing Montigo Resorts’ warm, welcoming blend of excellence in Asian hospitality to Somerset, where our guests will feel cherished, and pampered for ‘generations to come’. Charlton House is an impressive property of distinction, and we are committed to honouring its history, and working with the local community to thoughtfully restore the estate to its full potential.”
