The Best Breakfast In Bed Recipes For Valentine's Day

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, have you yet planned how you’re going to treat your significant other? A Tuesday may not seem like the best day for a celebration, but there are plenty of ways you can mark the occasion besides going out for an evening meal: like breakfast in bed.

It’s something that feels like a truly decadent start to the day and that’s bound to put a smile on your partner’s face…as long as they’re not too concerned about crumbs on the bed sheets!

The amount of effort you go to is up to you: some might want to decorate their bed with rose petals, serve the meal on a stylish bed tray, set the mood with great lighting and music. For some, just the simple act of preparing a favourite meal and serving it in bed is enough.

Whatever you decide – and whether you’ve got the luxury of a lazy morning or you’re short of time and need something quick and easy, there are loads of great breakfast in bed recipes that will suit. Here are some of my favourites.

Say it with heart shapes

If you want to go truly cutesy, there are plenty of heart-shaped breakfast options you can serve in bed this Valentine’s Day! You could use a heart cookie cutter to cut a heart shape in the centre of a piece of toast before frying an egg inside the gap you’ve created. You could make heart-shaped pancakes, waffles or pastries – or if you want to go for a healthier choice, a bowl of porridge or yoghurt topped with berries arranged in a heart shape is a nice easy option.

Think red and pink

Nothing screams Valentine’s Day louder than various shades of red and pink, so why not incorporate these colours into your breakfast in bed offering? A strawberry or raspberry-based smoothie or smoothie bowl, chocolate-dipped fruit or red velvet pancakes will all satisfy a sweet tooth.

If you’d prefer something savoury, why not go for something like tomatoes on toast or shakshuka to keep that red colour scheme going?

Make-in-advance options

If you don’t have the time to whip up an elaborate Valentine’s Day breakfast on the day, there are plenty of things you can make the night before so they’re ready to serve straight away on the day. Overnight oats are a good shout for the health-conscious – or for something more decadent, why not whip up a batch of pastries or scones?

Egg or bacon and egg muffins can be precooked and served either cold or hot…and if you want something more substantial, these freezer breakfast burritos can be prepared and frozen whenever you fancy, ready to defrost and reheat on February 14th.

Shop-bought solutions

Remember, there’s absolutely no shame in going for shop-bought options for your Valentine’s Day breakfast in bed! Head to your local bakery and pick up some freshly baked croissants, warm out the oven – and serve them with butter and a selection of jams, honeys and spreads for a breakfast that’ll wow without you needing to make too much effort.

You could even put together a continental-style breakfast tray, packed with pastries, toast, cereals, fresh fruit and more. You’ll find that some supermarkets do their own Valentine’s breakfast range (heart-shaped crumpets, anyone?) – and if cooked breakfasts are your thing, don’t forget about the M&S Love Sausage, which has made its return this year!

The finishing touches

The food you serve is one thing…but how you present it can elevate your February 14th breakfast in bed from a nice treat to something more special. These finishing touches don’t need to be anything extravagant: simply adding a carefully folded napkin, a single flower in a vase or a lit candle to the tray can make a big difference.

If you want to add more to the occasion, though, you can always invest in a tray with legs designed specifically for breakfast in bed. As I mentioned earlier, a sprinkling of rose petals or carefully chosen music or lighting can also help to set the tone of the occasion.

The ultimate dream for me would be to have one of those adjustable beds (some of which even have a massage option!) – the perfect way to take me from a comfortable sleeping position to a fully supported sitting position, ideal for a Valentine’s Day breakfast in bed.

Does a Valentine’s Day breakfast in bed appeal to you? If you could choose any breakfast to enjoy in bed on February 14th, what would it be? Let me know in the comments!
