Chicken wing lovers, rejoice! The world’s largest chicken wing festival is back, as Bristol Wing Fest returns on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September 2022.
Over the course of the weekend, the Lloyds Amphitheatre area will be transformed into a “poultry-eating, music-thumping, axe-throwing, beer and bourbon-drinking space of epic proportion“.
A huge array of independent restaurants, pop-ups and street food traders will be showcased at the event, displaying their culinary talents and competing against each other to find out who makes the best wings in the UK. It’s the festivalgoers themselves who will be voting to determine the winner in two different categories: best buffalo wing (with the classic spicy sauce), and best wild wing (where traders can let their creativity run wild with a variety of flavours and toppings).
The current reigning wing champions are Bristol-based Gurt Wings, who took home both the best buffalo and best wild prizes at the London Wing Fest. They’ll be lining up alongside Poor Boys, Mexican Seoul, Tasty Ragga and many others, with the competition taking place across both days of the festival.
In addition, Clifton Chilli Club will be hosting a Lava Wing Challenge – the UK’s hottest wing challenge – which promises to cause carnage. Visitors will also have the chance to take part in the Bull’s-Eye Wing Eating Competition, hosted by The Food Review Club: if you reckon you can put away more chicken wings than other competitors, get yourself signed up.
Alongside the wings, there will be beers from Meantime Brewery, and entertainment to include live blues music, brass bands, axe throwing and BBQ cooking demonstrations, as well as cocktail and bourbon masterclasses hosted by Horse With No Name and Jameson’s Orange. There will also be DJs taking the party mood into the evening.
Tickets for Bristol Wing Fest are now on sale, priced from £17.50 for early birds and £20 thereafter, with kids under 12 going free. All tickets include a Wing Fest signature trucker hat, free access to fairground rides, plus live music, competitions, masterclasses, cookery demonstrations and games.
