To the uninitiated, the outside of the Cyprus Kebab House on St Michael’s Hill may not look like anything special. But Greek Cypriot owners George and Flora have been serving Bristol some incredible Cypriot food since they opened in May 1987 – and now they’ve decided it’s time to retire.

Combining deliciously authentic food with fantastically retro decor and, of course, the personalities of George and Flora themselves, the Cyprus Kebab House has been an institution for many for years – if not decades. In the comments on their retirement announcement on Facebook, customers have been sharing sentiments like, “For decades I have been the family runner collecting our kebabs, a 12 mile round trip because you are simply the best in town!!”, “I have yet to find a better kebab”, and “This has been part of our lives since the 1980s”.

If you’ve not yet made it in there – or if you want to enjoy a final meal before they close the doors for good – there’s still time. The pair will officially be retiring on Saturday, March 28th, so be sure to head over for a takeaway kebab, or to enjoy a sit-down meze meal like this.
