It’s all about finding those hidden gems nowadays; away from all the big food chains, if you look hard enough, there is always something that can catch your eye.
Despite modern technology being responsible for making things available at the touch of a button, with shopping, food and gambling all included, some brick-and-mortar establishments continue to not just survive, but thrive.
And, in the southwest of England city of Bristol, there are plenty of new places to discover, away from all the hustle and bustle.
Grosvenor Casino
The Grosvenor Casino on Anchor Road which continues to pick up an impressive amount of punters despite the rise of online gambling. Aside from its roulette and blackjack tables, the Grosvenor possesses day and night leisure activities and a fantastic restaurant, making it an entertainer’s and food lover’s paradise.
Its superb bar and sports entertainment screen show football, boxing and other events and are in fact showing Shrewsbury vs Liverpool next week on the big screen. So if you fancy a bet on Liverpool or even Shrewsbury, you can watch the game live from the casino.
Princes Pantry
The small hut belonging to the Princes Pantry at the bottom of Prince Street is not much to look at from the outside.
Even when you head inside, the Pantry looks just like a place where tea and coffee would be served for people heading to work. But, with an array of heavenly burgers on offer, the Pantry doesn’t half get the taste buds tingling.
Giuseppe’s
Opening in 1961, Giuseppe’s is the oldest Italian restaurant in the city, cooking traditional Italian food and giving a rustic Italian service. Linking the steps between Baldwin Street and St Nicholas Street, Giuseppe’s is a little gold mine with well-priced food and an authentic Italian experience. A romantic getaway for two – like a number of other restaurants in Bristol.
Divino Deli
A winner of the Bristol Good Food awards for three years on the trot between 2013 and 2016, Divino Deli once again serves up exquisite Italian food, but this time in deli style.
Perfect for those traipsing to the Downs for a picnic, Divino Deli has its home on Worrall Road with quality cured meats, cheeses, olives and antipasti, oils and vinegars and even wines and liquors on offer.
The Toast Room
Brunch seems to be the order of the day at present for a lot of people. With its home in Bedminster, The Toast Room provides healthy, scrumptious food at a reasonable price.
Yet another BS3 opening, this East Street addition is certainly one to get tongues wagging as well as mouths salivating.
The Bell
Despite the gentrification of the area, The Bell on Hillgrove Street continues to thrive as a low-key, neighbourly-feeling establishment. Whilst the trendy and edgy bars on Stokes Croft seem a world away,
The Bell offers a throwback to bygone eras with wonderful pub meals at a bargain price and remains one of Bristol’s best-kept secrets, even with its local art and toilet graffiti giving it an eclectic feel.
