Who remembers My Burrito? The burrito restaurant was formerly at 7 Broad Quay in the city centre, and closed in either late 2014 or early 2015 (I forget), but it’s sadly missed. I used to choose a chicken or barbacoa beef rice box whenever I visited…or I’d make a specific trip there after a meal out in town just so I could end the night with their amazing churros.
If anyone else is lamenting the loss of My Burrito, then there’s great news for you: they’re coming back. And they’re opening this Friday, May 24th on Cathedral Walk, with the likes of Steak of the Art and Friska as their neighbours (they’re right next door to Friska, in fact).
It’s still Graham Jones and Esmeralda Martin-Rivera at the helm, and some things are still the same as before. Their barbacoa beef and chicken tinga, I’m pleased to see, are still on the menu as burrito fillings – along with pork pibil, marinated roast chicken, and two vegan options – sweet potato & mushroom, and BBQ jackfruit. And those burritos can be ordered in one of two sizes: 10 inches for £6.95, or 12 inches for £8.95. Alternatively, you’ll be able to order any of them as a hotbox rather than a burrito: instead of the tortilla wrap, you’ll have a box filled with your choice of meat/veg, plus lime & coriander rice, either pinto beans with bacon or black beans with green peppers, lettuce, pico de gallo, red onion pickled in orange juice, smoked jalapenos, sour cream, cheese and your choice of salsa.
Every single one of their four salsas is vegan (the smoked tomato was always my favourite, and it’s on the new menu, too), and the menu also features nachos…including a gluten-free nacho option, and a vegan nacho dish with vegan sour cream and cheese.
My Burrito opens at 11am on Friday, May 24th – note that it appears to be card payments only. It’s always lovely to see a much-loved business return from the ashes…and I have no doubt that they’ll be nice and busy!
