Bowl of Plenty to open at Spike Island

On Friday, May 3rd, a second Bowl of Plenty café will be opening at Spike Island on Cumberland Road during their popular Open Studios weekend.

Following the success of The Cooking Company’s outlet at the Colston Hall, which opened in 2018, Liz Haughton will be bringing the concept to Spike Island: home to a community of over 70 artists, designers, makers, creative businesses and arts organisations. Offering healthy, nutritious food served in bowls, there will be soups, chillies, salads, stews and breakfast bowls on offer, alongside homemade cakes, toasties, hot drinks and healthy soft drink options.

Three years ago, The Cooking Company took over the Spike Island café, and it’s proved a popular meeting place since. Now, the aim is, says Liz, to “align the cafés and streamline the menus, whilst allowing our chefs’ creativity to shine through in specials”.

The Cooking Company is also behind the café at Bristol Folk House, which is set to relaunch as a third Bowl of Plenty during June’s Bristol Food Connections event.

Bowl of Plenty at Spike Island will open on May 3rd, with extended opening hours until 10pm on that day to celebrate the venue’s Open Studios Weekend. After that, it will be open weekdays from 8.30am to 5pm, and from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with external catering also available. With ethically sourced local and organic produce on offer – and a desire to build welcoming spaces for the community – it’s sure to be a success!
