From 4pm on Friday, February 22nd, The Rising Sun pub in Windmill Hill will begin a new lease of life with a change of management and a much-needed refurbishment.
Now part of the team behind The Golden Guinea and The Steam Crane, the place looks totally different to how it did before – see the Facebook page for photos.
At first, the focus will be on opening as a pub in the evenings, with plans to open during the daytimes shortly after. And they’ve certainly prepared for the pub element, with a completely new cellar to guarantee quality cask and keg lines.
While there will be some permanent and semi-permanent lagers and ciders, expect some interesting, changing selections from both locally and further afield. It seems that the first rotation will include beers from Tiny Rebel and Lervig to start with, with a range of cans and bottles to include Wild Beer and Croft Ales. The Rising Sun team also promise some low alcohol and zero alcohol choices, and are always open to suggestions for new beers to serve.
Down the line, the plan during the day is to open as a parent and child-friendly café, serving locally sourced coffees and cakes. There will be toys to keep kids entertained, and they’re also hoping to host events or classes, with anyone who’s interested invited to get in touch.
There’s no kitchen on-site, but they do have food prep and storage space. From the opening day onwards, they’ll be offering both meat and vegetarian sausage rolls from Feastie Boys as well as a range of cakes, but are looking for additional options too.
Best of luck to Stephen and the team for your opening weekend!
