We wrote back in July about how 100% plant-based resturant Suncraft was set to open on Gloucester Road in September…and it’s now been confirmed that Thursday, September 27th is the night.
Opening from 6pm onwards on the 27th, Suncraft is just over the road from its sister restaurant, The Gallimaufry, and will be opening with a launch menu that is plant-based and vegan, with the majority also gluten-free.
Head chef Kane Danaher, previously at The Ivy Clifton Brasserie, has created a selection of dishes with an Asian focus, which include lentil dhansak; dumplings and parsnip mash; spiced potato & spinach cakes; soba noodle and rice salads; and a selection of sides, sharing plates and desserts.
On the drinks front, expect organic wines from Billings & Briggs, local Cotswold Brewing Company and Wiper & True beers, Harry’s Cider, Kombucha, Pure Earth juices, freshly made cold pressed juices and Canton teas…and they have plans to make their own probiotics too…
Excitingly, in what’s believed to be a first for Bristol restaurants, the Suncraft crew have also teamed up with Grow Bristol to install an in-house hydroponics system, meaning they’ll be able to grow their own ingredients like spinach, pak choi, edible flowers, and mizuna (Japanese mustard leaves). Holding around 140 plants over four levels, the hydroponics unit will be a self-regulating system using no pesticides, and creates an optimum environment for good quality fast growing produce, just a metre from Suncraft’s kitchen in the restaurant.
Ethics will be at the heart of everything they do, and this will include using reusable glass bottles and containers, and very little plastic. Some of their tables are made of recycled yoghurt pots, and the rest of the restaurant has been crafted using plenty of reclaimed wood.
They’re also adding an optional 20p donation to every dine-in customer’s bill in return for unlimited filtered still and sparkling water from Belu, who will give 100% of each donation to their charity partner WaterAid to transform lives with clean water, worldwide.
From the 27th the 29th, Suncraft will be open from 6pm to 10pm, closed on Sunday 30th, then from Monday 1st October, they’ll be open seven days a week from 12pm till 10pm. Dishes will change every three months depending on the availability of their ethically sourced ingredients, and Suncraft will be open for walk-ins and takeaway orders only – no bookings.
