If you’re up for doing something food and drink-related to raise vital funds for a local charity, get involved in The Big Eat to support Jessie May.

Jessie May is a Kingswood-based charity that provides specialist nursing care for terminally ill children in their own homes. They offer both respite care and emotional support to the children’s families, in addition to end-of-life care and bereavement support.

This free-of-charge care is provided by Jessie May nurses across Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire…and every year, the service costs around £1,500,000.

Jessie May is almost totally reliant on public support, and it’s events like The Big Eat that help them to raise the funds they need to continue their amazing work.

The Big Eat

The Big Eat is a foodie fundraiser that anyone – from schools to businesses to individuals – can get involved in. Whether you want to bake, eat, lose weight or compete, there are lots of ways in which you can use the power of food to raise money for Jessie May’s work.

Suggestions on their website include hosting dinner parties at home, school bake sales or playground food fights, office Bake Off competitions, or – for restaurants – donating a percentage of a day’s profits to the cause. Those looking to lose weight are also encouraged to take part, with the suggestion of donating £1 for every pound lost.

For more info on how to get involved, take a look at the fundraising pack on the Jessie May website. And, what’s more, every penny that Jessie May receive in donations from November 27th to December 4th will be match-funded by pledgers – donating your Big Eat funds during this time will make twice the difference…
