We, the contemporary mums, are truly “wonder women”, for we can do multiple tasks at the same time. We can wash dirty clothes while cleaning the house, and dress our kids for school while setting the table. We always seem to be brimming with energy for our kids; but our energy isn’t inexhaustible! Moreover, this constant multi-tasking can usually take its toll on our body, mind, and emotions, leaving us drained at the end of the day. To prolong our daily effectiveness, I believe we can make our daily chores easier by employing home automation systems in the management of our homes.

Times have changed a lot, and we are no longer in a technological dark age. Mankind can now send spacecrafts to the very edges of the solar system without losing their control. Hence, we have every reason to embrace contemporary home automation technology to improve our home management. But don’t be anxious! You don’t need to be tech-savvy to have a workable automation system in your home – all you need is the right devices and a reliable internet connection from someone like earthlink internet so that you are able to control and manage your system. Even if you don’t have the know-how, you can simply hire someone who can help you fully automate your home, allowing you to facilitate the management of your home even from a distance.

How Do Contemporary Home Automation Systems Work?

Home automation systems have already progressed to a point that you can control your heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems from anywhere. You can do this via the use of your smartphone and some simple smart configurations, even while dining out with a friend in a Foodora partner restaurant. My friend in Dubai, for example, is a mum who seems to be enamoured with cutting-edge technologies, and she recently had installed a workable automation system in her house. She said she can now fully automate the cooking of bacon even if she is in the office. Moreover, she now has a fully-automated lighting system, equipped with powerful sensors that can readily sense if there is a person using a room in her home. She also recently installed some people-counting cameras in each of the rooms of her home. These smart cameras can count the number of people inside a room and send actionable data to the HVAC systems of her home. She says she’s now like a wizard living in a magical home!

This type of home automation setup is made possible by the rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the development of powerful sensors. Moreover, it is estimated that by the year 2020 there will be around 50 billion smart devices around the world, all capable of communicating with each other. These billions of smart devices would surely include millions of refrigerators, HVAC systems, microwave ovens, cars, and lighting systems.

Mums of the 21st Century

Most electronic devices nowadays are equipped with microchips that allow them to readily communicate with other smart devices. Therefore, you can configure an IoT network within your home just by using your smartphone. This type of home automation is different from the old automation system that had a central control room as its command center. In the contemporary home automation system, however, the actionable commands usually come from the edges of the home automation network, and this is called “edge technology.” This allows the contemporary home automation system to work on its own even if the homeowners are not around.

As a 21st century mum, you should be thrilled with the rapid innovations in home automation systems, for these innovations will definitely have a bearing on how you can manage your home. They allow you to save your precious motherly energy for more quality time with your kids. Lastly, this contemporary home automation can make the management of your home truly cost-effective and energy efficient.
