With the UK throwing away £13bn of food every year, food waste is a massive problem. Cafe Surplus is opening this June to highlight just what can be done with food that is often binned.
Cafe Surplus is the brainchild of environmentalist and food waste campaigner Anna Hughes, and this launch evening will feature a buffet crafted from ingredients that would otherwise go to waste. On the evening, all food will be fully vegan, and created with food collected from local supermarkets, markets and shops. Due to the nature of the event, the exact menu won’t be decided and revealed until the day of the event – but Anna promises there will be plenty to eat!
Tickets are priced at £10 each and are available via Eventbrite. This ticket price includes the buffet (eat as much as you like!) and a non-alcoholic cocktail on arrival, as well as covering venue hire and staff wages.
The pop-up food waste buffet will be held at Café Connect on St Mark’s Road, Easton: a social enterprise serving healthy and sustainably sourced food, which also hosts community events and supports local charities.
