It’s been closed for a while, but this Friday, October 6th, Totterdown’s Star & Dove will be reopening under brand new ownership.
The two-storey pub on St Luke’s Road will be open from 3pm to 12am on its first day, and will be run by married couple Chris and Mel who live above the pub, along with Chris’ brother Steven. The pair returned from a six-year stint in Australia a year ago, with Chris having worked in a few of Bristol’s big chain pubs before taking over the Star & Dove lease.
The former owners closed the doors for the last time on May 28th, 2017 after six years of trading, and now it’s time for a fresh new start and a brand new look. Instagram photos from the new team show a bright and airy new look in progress, and we’re excited to see the finished result.
The lease for the pub is owned by Heineken, but there will also be the likes of Amstel, Thatchers Gold, Guinness, Bath Gem, Abbot Ale and Orchard Thieves cider on offer, as well as a variety of cocktail specials. The restaurant is set to open in mid to late-October, with menu development currently in progress.
On the opening day, you’ll find a sample selection of food from their function menu from 8pm onwards – and keep an eye out for their specially created dove cake, hand-crafted by landlady Mel.

I was wondering what happened to you. I am Alan Chubb of Quoins Organic vineyard in Bradford on Avon (Soil Association certified) and I used to regularly supply the old Star and Dove with both red and white organic wines. These wines are Decanter award quality and I do sell them to Waitrose stores throughout the region. The Orion white wine was awarded a highly commended award from the recent Bath Food and Drinks competition.
So would you be interested in stocking any or all of the wines, the Rondo red was a particular favourite of previous customers. Do you look me up on the website and I can drop by with some samples
