After nearly 20 years, Dynasty – one of Bristol’s best-loved Chinese restaurants – will be closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, September 24th.
Owners the Ho family have sold the restaurant to the developers behind the multi-million pound plan to regenerate Bristol’s Redcliffe area. Many of the buildings surrounding Dynasty have already been demolished to make way for the development, which will see the creation of new restaurants, hotels and pedestrianised areas that’ll create a vibrant link between the city centre and Temple Meads. The Dynasty team are hopeful that the restaurant will return in the future – hopefully as part of the new Redcliff Quarter, whose restaurant units are set to open in 2019.

Head chef/owners Peter Lo and Calvin Chong are sad to see the restaurant go – and, says Calvin, “even more sad to say goodbye to our loyal customers, suppliers, and friends, some of whom have grown with us since day one.
“We have been through a tremendous journey, and do not have anything but deep gratitude to the local community for standing beside us all this time.
“Although we will be closing our doors on the 24th September, we are negotiating for new premises, and hope to be able to serve our diners again in the near future.”
Dynasty was named by Alan Yau, who created Wagamama and Britain’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurants, among his top five Chinese restaurants in the UK in The Observer and The Guardian newspapers.
Calvin added: “This is an incredibly sad time for the Ho family, who have so many happy memories of Dynasty in St Thomas Street. But hopefully the end of one era will turn out to be the beginning of a brand new one.” We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have news of their future return…
