We have Deliveroo, we have Just-Eat, we have Hungry House…now another food delivery firm has thrown its name into the ring with the launch of UberEATS on Thursday, July 27th.
Following its success in other cities across the globe, UberEATS claims to offer food for delivery from over 50 restaurants from 11am to 11pm, 7 days a week, with no minimum order size and speedy delivery.
It can’t be done through the regular Uber app, though – you’ll need to download the separate UberEATS app to get started. You’ll be asked to input your address, then you’re good to go – and if you already have the Uber app installed, it appears that they add your payment details into the UberEATS app automatically when you sign in.
At first glance, there’s nowhere near the claimed 50 restaurants on board as yet – and those who are signed up are, for the most part, it seems, already available through other platforms. Sea Pearl, Falafel King, Sotiris, CUPP, Prezzo, Fishers and more are all on there – but I expect there’ll be plenty more added when the service takes off.
Ordering is simple: choose your restaurant and your food/drink, choose a delivery time and pay, including a £2.50 delivery fee per order. You’ll be told roughly how long your food will take to arrive, and, as with Uber’s cab booking service, you’ll be able to watch the driver’s progress as your food makes its way to your door. Also like Uber cabs, you can rate the service after your order has arrived.
If you fancy £5 off your first order, use promo code eats-emilyk2410ue (disclaimer – it gives me £5 off too!) I’d be interested to hear the experience of anyone who tries out UberEATS while it’s still in its infancy…
