The farmers’ market on Wednesdays in Bristol’s city centre is one of the UK’s longest-running, having taken place each week since 1998. Now, Bristol City Council are working with Love Food Festival to breathe a new lease of life into the market, to help to reinstate it as a highlight of Bristol’s weekly calendar.
The market will relaunch on 7th June, under the new name of Bristol Farmers’ and Producers’ Market, to reflect the diverse produce that will be on offer. The team have already recruited new traders – and there is room for more. The selection criteria have been adjusted to take taste and quality into consideration, as well as provenance and sustainability.
The market’s new opening hours will be from 8am until 2.30pm, giving customers plenty of opportunity to stock up before work or during their lunch break. Alongside the fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers and cheese mongers will be local producers selling breakfast pastries for commuters on their way to work, freshly made pasta and sauces and other locally made nutritious convenience foods to cater for busy lives.
There will be plenty of entertainment too, with live music and food demonstrations from Bristol food hero Barny Haughton on the first Wednesday of every month, as well as children’s activities during the summer holidays.
Bristol Farmers’ and Producers’ market will take place on Corn St and Wine Street every Wednesday. If you are interested in running a stall at the market, you can fill out an application form here.
The Street Food Market will be moving to Tuesdays as from the 16th May 2017 to provide space for both the Bristol Farmers’ and Producers’ Market and the Street Food Market to thrive.
