UPDATE: Review of The Smoke Haus Bristol now online – you can read it here.
On Monday, March 13th at 12pm, the doors to The Smoke Haus Bristol will officially open for the first time. This is the fourth restaurant for the team (who already have restaurants in Cardiff, Swansea and Birmingham), serving up a menu that’s “rooted in the traditions of good old American barbecue from way down in the South.”
The brand began after a trip to New Orleans, where the owners fell in love with the barbecue and brought it back to Swansea. Since then, The Smoke Haus has continued to grow – and now it’s Bristol’s turn to experience what it’s all about.
The team say that it’s not just about the food: it’s about the experience too. The restaurant, in the former home of Flavourz in the city centre, will be designed to recreate the atmosphere and warmth of a Kentucky biker bar…and you’ll certainly see the US influence in their drinks menu. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to beers – and whiskies and bourbons too – with wines, ciders and soft drinks, along with cocktails and mocktails, also available.
But what about the food? Well…it’s all the big flavours you’d expect: the menu includes everything from chicken and waffles to corn dogs, burgers to brisket, ribs, sandwiches, steaks and everything in between.
Bristol’s got a pretty good BBQ scene – with the Grillstock festival and restaurants, Spitfire and others more in the street food vein, it remains to be seen whether The Smoke Haus will be a good addition to the current scene, or a step too far. From what I can tell from reviews of the other restaurants, we should expect big portions and a great atmosphere – review coming soon!
