The three Better Food cafés in Bristol have become the first eateries in England to receive the Soil Association’s Organic Served Here Award, receiving 4 stars in recognition of their commitment to sourcing sustainable food by using 93% organic ingredients.

The three cafés champion local organic producers such as Godminster Cheese, meat from Adey’s Farm in Gloucestershire and vegetables from The Community Farm in North Somerset. Dishes range from £3 to just £8.50, with children’s meals priced from £2, demonstrating that eating sustainably and ethically need not break the bank.

Organic Served Here was initially launched in Scotland last year, rolling out nationwide from January 2017. It assures customers that awarded eateries source between 15% and 100% of their ingredients from certified organic suppliers. The higher the percentage of organic ingredients an award holder uses, the higher the number of stars they can apply for. Sales of organic produce are on the rise, and the Organic Served Here stars make it easy for diners to make positive choices when eating out.

Better Food, which later this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, has long been a major player on Bristol’s organic food scene, demonstrated most recently with the opening of their third store and café at Wapping Wharf.
