At 8.30am on Friday November 25th, Pieminister’s Bristol restaurants on Stokes Croft and Broad Quay will become Black Pieday Pop-up Shops, giving away pies in return for donations to Shelter. It’s all about #BlackPieday, not Black Friday

Pieminister’s Black Pieday is an alternative to the usual spending frenzy of Black Friday, and an opportunity for the people of Bristol to spend their money wisely, giving to charity in return for pies. Hundreds of Pieminister’s award winning Classics will be up for grabs, and every single penny that’s donated in return will go directly to housing and homelessness charity Shelter.

The pies Pieminister is giving away for Black Pieday have been frozen down to avoid wastage. Pieminister pies are sold fresh, but on the rare occasion that there’s a batch of surplus pies, they freeze them ready to be redistributed later for good causes or special events.

Pieminister Co-founder and MD Jon Simon says, “With many of us gearing up for a Black Friday spending spree this Friday, we wanted to turn this event on its head and use it to do something good. Shelter helps millions of people struggling with bad housing or homelessness every year and Black Pieday is a chance to support the charity and get a pie in return. We think that’s money-well-spent. Our pop-up shops on Stokes Croft and Broad Quay will open at 8.30am so you can get your pies on your way to work or as you head to the shops. We’ll have free range British chicken pies, British steak pies and Vegetarian Society Approved pies to choose from so get here early for the best selection. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Pieminister’s first Black Pieday took place last year at its original restaurant on Stokes Croft. On Black Friday in 2015, their ‘free pie pop-up shop’ raised almost £2,000 for Shelter in just over an hour with hundreds of pies snapped up by generous Bristolians on their way to work. This year, they hope to raise even more money for Shelter by opening Black Pieday popup shops at their other restaurants and cafés throughout the UK.
