A new café based at the heart of St Werburghs, Neck of the Woods, opens its doors on Friday, September 9th, aiming to become a focal point for the community.

Neck of the Woods is based in St Werburghs Community Centre and will be showcasing the best of local food to produce high quality food and drinks. You’ll find a full range of breakfast items for all tastes, a range of loaded sandwiches, salads, soups and seasonal items, along with daily changing homemade cakes and pastries. There will be a full range of speciality coffees along with teas, soft drinks, juices and smoothies. Evening pop up events and outside catering opportunities are also planned.

The café is the brainchild of Murilo Leite and Jess Atherton. Murilo has nearly 10 years of experience working at Boston Tea Party whilst Jess’ background as a Community Manager at Foodcycle stands them in great stead to deliver not only an excellent café experience, but also to engage the local community.

Murilo and Jess will be offering volunteering and work experience opportunities for all sections of the community and they hope the café environment can help build their skills and confidence.

Murilo said: “We are hoping to create an inclusive environment where people from all walks of life can come and enjoy great food and friendly service. Our aim is that Neck of the Woods grows into a landmark for St Werburghs, we are committed to reinvesting into local projects and will always be open to new ways to make a lasting effect.”

Some of the other ways the duo plan to engage the local community include encouraging individuals and groups to use the space for regular groups and events as well as allowing local producers and artists to sell their items at the café. They will also be offering a ‘pay it forward’ scheme, allowing customers to buy an extra item and donate it to the next person coming in who needs it.

The café opening has been helped with support from local businesses and individuals that have donated their time, expertise and equipment.
