Bristol-based organic food retailer Better Food is to host a Better Community Feast at their St. Werburghs in-store café on Friday 16th September, with all proceeds going to St. Mungo’s Bristol to support their work with homeless and vulnerable people in the city.
The feast will be the highlight of their programme of events celebrating Organic September, a Soil Association-led campaign highlighting the benefits of going organic and choosing products that have been produced to the highest possible animal welfare and environmental standards.
Better Food head chef Lou Marchionne and her team will be creating a surprise menu made almost completely from surplus organic food from the store and from nearby The Community Farm in Chew Magna. Members of the Better Food team themselves will be going to the farm the day before the feast to pick excess crops, ‘veg on the edge’ and some of the farm’s more unsightly vegetables. Other kind donations from Priors Farm and Vintage Roots will ensure that guests can enjoy dessert made from surplus fruit, and a glass of organic wine with their meal.
Thomas Bourne, managing director at The Well Hung Meat Company and Ped Asgarian, MD of The Community Farm will be talking at the feast about their commitment to organic farming, and Simon Dyer from St. Mungo’s Bristol will be there to discuss the important work the charity carries out in the city.
