Local cider brand, Orchard Pig, is bringing the largest homemade catapult into action again. The powerful contraption will launch cans of its Reveller cider from its home turf in Glastonbury all the way to Bristol, on Thursday 30th June from 11am to 5pm – tweet for freebies!
Orchard Pig will be setting up shop at this year’s Grillstock Festival, the home of barbecue and music…but not wanting to leave those who aren’t attending out of the party, they’ve set up a 2.3m tall slingshot to deliver Reveller cans elsewhere in Bristol – straight to your desk or home to get you in the mood for the big weekend. The sturdy steel frame incorporates used railway sleepers: it’s a heavy duty device that will see the cans soar through the air faster than the national driving speed limit.
From today (June 30th), the cans are being catapulted from Glastonbury at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, and then picked up by a dedicated street team to make the final delivery to thirsty Bristol drinkers.
The catapult is situated in the West Bradley Orchards, where the cider maker is based, giving it the perfect testing zone for its second voyage. The tweet-to-order mechanic will see Bristolians taking to social media to request their Reveller delivery in time for the weekend, using the hashtag #CatapultMyCan. The catapult is being manned by Chief Innovation Officer and farm favourite, Roger Larder.
Roger says, “We launched our can delivery service in May with such a great reception that we’re doing it again. We like to deliver our new cans of cider in true Orchard Pig fashion and so physically launching them through the atmosphere is a sensible option. The cans will fly from our Glastonbury based orchard, to the Bristol, directly into the hands of thirsty Bristolians – but only if they can catch them.”
Grillstock Festival and Orchard Pig have teamed up to offer the luckily cider recipients the chance to win tickets to the festival on Saturday and Sunday. All you have to do is film yourself catching your cider delivery, and Orchard Pig will pick the best ones.
To be in with a chance of getting cans of Revellers delivered, tweeters in central and surrounding Bristol areas need to tweet their request using the hashtag #CatapultMyCan from 11am on 30th June.
