We’ve had some pretty good meals from Deliveroo over the last few months, with places like Tampopo, CAU and Gourmet Burger Kitchen all impressing. Continuing along the burger theme, we decided to test out the service from Three Brothers Burgers at Spyglass on Welsh Back, to see if their offering and the delivery service could live up to our expectations.
We’re lucky to fall within the Deliveroo delivery area in Bristol, which currently includes Broadmead, Clifton, Redland, Cotham, Montpelier, Cabot Circus and Central Bristol. More areas are set to be added soon – along with a wider range of restaurants too.
The service from Deliveroo was as reliable as we’d previously experienced – the website was easy to use, my account details had been remembered and the stated delivery time on confirmation of the order was accurate. Our delivery driver was friendly and polite, and our food appeared to be well-packaged and not damaged by its journey.
Testing our appetites, we both ordered the Mega Burger (£10): a bun stuffed with a double patty, double American cheese, double sweet cured bacon, crispy onions and house made relish. Packaged well, the burgers were still lovely and hot when they arrived – and while fully loaded, the soft bun held together surprisingly well while eating. The patties themselves were juicy and well-seasoned, the bacon just the right level of crisp, and you can see from the picture just how well melted the generous portion of cheese really was… While £10 may seem a lot for a burger, unless your appetite’s huge, you won’t need any sides!
We discovered this for ourselves on the day we ordered – we probably didn’t need the portion of chilli cheese fries (£5.75) to share…but we didn’t eat many of them anyway. While the burgers themselves were fantastic, these fries were a bit of a letdown. Served in a foil tray, we were expecting them to have retained their heat…but the cheese-topped fries themselves were lukewarm, and the chilli con carne (which was served on the side rather than on top as stated on the menu – presumably to avoid soggy chips) was completely cold. It’s a shame, as the little that we tried was fantastic, not overly spicy and with chunks of tender, slow-cooked beef brisket rather than mince.
Would we order from them for delivery again? The burgers, definitely – they were epic. It’s just a shame the side that we ordered was pretty much inedible – I’m not sure if it was a one-off or a common problem, but a decent temperature would have made this a great meal.
Please note: our order was discounted, but this in no way impacted on our opinion. We were not obliged to write a positive review, and the venue did not see this review before it was put up on the site.
