Bristol is home to a wealth of quirky food and drink venues, events and people – and Bite to Meet is one of the latest to be added to that list. This new service “connects people who like to cook with people who want to eat affordably and get to know their neighbours”, allowing anyone to host a meal and invite others to join them.
“Think Airbnb but for food”, says founder David. Bite to Meet is all about sharing meals: after registering with the website, users can either host their own meals and charge a small fee for others to join them, or attend a meal that is sure to be cheaper than any restaurant.
Takeaway is also an option, says David, so if you make a huge amount of a particular dish and want to sell off the rest, then this is possible.
At launch, there was one event listed on the website: a traditional Korean soup with kimchi and rice, taking place in BS2 on July 12th and charged at £3 per head. At the time of writing, payment was via cash on the day – but the plan is to implement a system that uses PayPal to avoid the awkwardness of asking for payment on the night.
