Reckon you’ve got what it takes to make the best Spanish tortilla in Bristol? If so, it’s time to book yourself in for El Rincon‘s annual tortilla de patata competition, which will take place on Sunday, July 26th.
A maximum of 30 entries will be allowed in this year’s competition, with a fee of £5 per entry required to be paid at El Rincon on North Street before July 23rd. When paying, entrants will also pick up a tortilla plate on which to present their entry on the competition day.
Each tortilla that is entered into the competition much be made from five ingredients only: potato, egg, onion, salt and oil. Entries much be presented at the bar, served on the tortilla plate and wrapped in alumnium foil, between 11am and 2pm on the day of the competition: any entry that is late, that does not use the plate that has been provided or that contains extra ingredients will be disqualified.
The schedule for the day of the competition looks something like this…
11am – 2pm: Tortilla registrations
12.30pm: Live music
2.30pm: Tortilla judging
4pm: Tortilla presentations
5pm: Live music
The competition will be judged by a mixture of previous champions, Bristol-based Spanish chefs, tortilla enthusiasts and friends of El Rincon, with the winner receiving a trophy and a £50 voucher to spend on booze and tapas at El Rincon. For those who wish to spectate, tapas will be served all day on July 26th, and you’ll also have a chance to sample the competition entries after they have been judged.
