It's a Bristol Ting

Lakota alongside Bristol Eats brings you a second year of It’s a Bristol Ting! a world food and music festival as part of the Bristol Food Connections week on 3rd May, bank holiday Sunday from 12:00 – 20:00. In connection with Ujima, BCfm and the BBC, the aim is to enjoy and celebrate the flavours and sounds Bristol’s streets have to offer; its multi-cultural diversity and innovative ingenuity.

At It’s a Bristol Ting! the public will have the opportunity to witness a highly anticipated jerk chicken competition mediated by a panel of well-qualified judges, whilst feasting on a flavoursome and varied street food market. This year they’ll also have the chance to get involved in a cooking competition, team vs. team in ‘Ready, Steady, Skip’ with Skipchen, a waste-not-want-not food organisation based in the heart of Bristol. Skipchen will have just returned from their trip to Calais feeding refugees over there, and will be giving a talk on what they do, why they do it and how people can get involved. As well as this, world-foods supplier Bristol Sweet Mart will be putting your taste buds to the test with a chilli eating contest and the chance to win prizes. Attendees will also have more potential of winning big prizes sponsored by some of Bristol’s independent companies such as COLAB, Skipchen, Lakota and Minirig by purchasing raffle tickets on the day, all in aid of East Bristol Food Bank.

With face painting, kids’ games and music powered by local Tremor Soundsystem, playing reggae, dub, funk and soul, there’s plenty to head over and enjoy. Any waste from the event will be distributed around the surrounding area to anyone that needs, but can’t afford their own food. A family fun day bringing together and celebrating Bristol’s thriving multi-cultural diversity.
