Foodies Festival, the UK’s biggest celebration of food and drink, moves to The Downs this summer, transforming its new home into a foodie heaven for June 26th to 28th, celebrating its 10th anniversary with celebrity chefs, new food and drink theatres, artisan producers and a huge amount of street food.
The Aga Rangemaster Chefs Theatre welcomes Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite, who will share his favourite summer recipes and top baking tips for visitors to create delicious summer cakes.
2014 MasterChef champion Ping Coombes from Bristol also joins the Chefs’ Theatre, cooking her favourite dishes from the series for visitors to take away and recreate at home for friends and family, alongside MasterChef winners Tim Anderson and Matt Follas, MasterChef runner-up Jackie Kearney, Romy Gill from Romy’s Kitchen, Harvey Nichols head chef Louise McCrimmon and food writer Xanthe Clay.
Festival-goers can look forward to toasting Foodies’ big year in the New Wine and Champagne Theatre, where experts Laura Clay and Charles Metcalfe will guide visitors through this season’s best British bubblies from the UK and around the world. Beer expert Melissa Cole hosts masterclasses in the New Craft Beer Theatre, matching foods with locally produced craft beers and ciders, while Harvey Nichols share their summer cocktail secrets for visitors to sample and shake up at home.
A New Tasting Theatre hosts masterclasses with local experts, inviting foodies to try the latest foods and learn new skills including Oyster Shucking, Bee Keeping, Cheese Selecting, Foraging, Raw and Vegan foods and Herb Cocktail Making.
The Cake & Bake Theatre is an inspiration for passionate bakers with top local cake makers and bakeries sharing their tips for summer bakes. Visitors can also enjoy 3D cake modelling, Chocolate Making and Sugar-Craft masterclasses and a complementing Chocolate, Cake and Bake Village selling bakes, jams, gadgets and baking essentials.
After the introduction of street food to Foodies Festival in 2012, the Street Food Avenue has become a feasting hub, offering a huge selection of hot and cold dishes from around the world. Japanese, Thai, Brazilian, Argentinian, Mexican, French and African cuisines are just some of the cuisines visitors can tuck into at communal tables in the Feasting Tent. Ping will also serve Malaysian Street Food from her Pop-Up Restaurant.
Somerset Charcuterie, Denhay Farm, Field and Flower, Eat Stoats and Fatman Chilli join the Artisan Producers’ Market, where visitors can meet and shop from over 200 producers selling award winning cheeses and wines, breads and bakes, jams and condiments, cured meats and more to take home and enjoy.
Little foodies can explore their taste buds and learn basic skills with Picnic in the Park themed masterclasses in the Children’s Cookery Theatre, where Kiddy Cook will show them how to make finger sandwiches, jellies and chocolate bugs.
After a day of feasting and fun, foodies can relax with a spot on the grass and soak in the atmosphere with live music from the entertainment stage and a refreshing cocktail, glass of bubbly or a Pimms from the Giant Pimms Teapot and Galleon Mojito bars.
