A new food business, The World Preserved, has just launched in Montpelier, Bristol. Owned and run by accomplished cook Rose Child, the business aims to offer something a little different to traditional British preserves. Drawing on the rich traditions of food preservation found the world over, The World Preserved creates chutneys, spice pastes and sweet preserves inspired by international flavours. Each of their complex and flavourful products is handmade in small batches using the best quality ingredients. All products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and are gluten-free. The business has an eco-friendly ethos, using ethically-sourced produce and local suppliers wherever possible.
The World Preserved are initially selling a range of four products: Apricot & Orange Blossom Chutney; Sweet Chilli & Tomato Chutney; Rose Harissa Paste; and Chipotle Paste. More products are in development and will be added to the range later in the year, including sweet preserves such as Rhubarb & Rose and Spiced Cherry. The core product range can be purchased through their website: www.theworldpreserved.co.uk. They will also be selling these and limited edition items at markets in Bristol and the surrounding area. They are currently approaching shops, caterers and food businesses who may be interested in stocking or using their preserves.
The World Preserved’s owner, Rose Child, was inspired to start the business after moving to the South West and working with other local food businesses:
“I’ve always been a keen cook, but it wasn’t until I moved to Bristol in 2008 that my love of food really came into its own. It’s impossible not to be inspired by the array of fantastic produce that floods into the city from the South West, the fierce pride in independent business, and the huge diversity of cultures and their cuisines.
“I started working with local food businesses and charities in 2010, and in 2014 I decided to set up my own business. The World Preserved combines my love of great quality ingredients, my interest in spices and international flavours, and my passion for local, ethical produce.
I’m doing what I love, and I couldn’t be happier. I believe that shows in our food.”
