It may be bleak outside, but Love Food Festival will be demonstrating the power that warming food and community has to lift your spirits with its first festival of 2015.
Celebrate the Chinese New Year of the sheep, which begins on 19th February, with some fun children’s activities, Chinese dumplings from Ah Ma’s Dumplings and community spirit. It is the year of peace and harmonious co-existence after all.
Support local producers as you explore the warm indoor markets. Pick up delicious pancake fillings such as locally made jams and syrups, or special belated Valentine’s gifts including stunning ceramics from Maison Rustique. Stock up on warming teas and comfort food ingredients including fresh locally reared meats and vegetables from Kidner’s Organics, perfect for a slow cooked stew. You could even treat yourself to a massage while you’re at it, and start energising yourself ready for the first signs of spring.
The courtyard will be alive with the smells and sounds of sizzling winter warmers being freshly prepared. Food from around the world, including fresh dumplings, curries and jerk chicken, will provide warmth and inspiration.
Children can get creative making their own pancakes (don’t forget Pancake Day is on 17th February), as well as making their own vegetable spring rolls. In the crafty corner they can also learn the art of Chinese writing and origami.
Commenting, Love Food Festival founder Lorna Knapman said: “Winter can be a bleak time of year, but food is one thing that can bring warmth and cause for celebration. Whether it’s Pancake Day or Chinese New Year, spending time with your family and enjoying good food together is sure to lift the spirits and see you through into spring.”
