New name and major changes for The Hill on Cotham Hill…

Spread the love

The Hill on Cotham Hill is an institution for many: partly for its pizzas (and great pizza deals), partly for its live sport screening, partly for its fantastic Speedquizzing pub quizzes on a Monday night. Sadly, though, the pizza oven will soon be no more, as a takeover by the Brewhouse And Kitchen brand – with existing venues in London, Dorchester and Portsmouth – will see the pub undergoing a huge number of changes.

From the end of January to the end of February or start of March (re-opening date to be confirmed), the venue will be closed for a complete overhaul. Those lamenting the end of the pizza oven will be happy to know that The Hill is offering 2 for 1 pizzas Monday-Thursday until they close, so get in quick.

There are some pretty exciting changes in the pipeline, though. The old pizza oven is making way for a microbrewery, with an on-site brewer moving in imminently. They’ll be offering four regular brews created on the premises, along with lots of seasonal options too. In addition, they’ll be stocking a range of local Bristol ales, along with a greater variety of ciders on tap – and they’ll even be hosting their own cider festival in the summer.

The new food menu looks pretty good too, with everything made on site. Expect a menu similar to that offered in their Dorchester pub, where traditional “pub grub” sits alongside options such as a lamb tagine, tartiflette (which I’m seriously excited about…), seafood chowder and more. There’s also a range of burgers, hot dogs and steaks, and excitingly they’ll also be offering a Sunday roast, which is currently seriously lacking on Cotham Hill.

According to manager Pete, there will be various food offers on different days of the week, with the exact offers to be confirmed closer to the opening date. Punters can also expect events such as beer tasting sessions, brewery masterclasses, food pairing days and brewery experience days – and quiz fans will be happy to hear that the Speedquizzing will continue.

With any new venue comes the need for new staff, and the team will be looking to recruit bar, waiting and kitchen staff at all levels – email bristol@brewhouseandkitchen.com if you are interested.

At the time of writing, the Bristol section of the website was just a holding page, but keep checking back here for more information.
