Says reviewer Louis Hessey-Antell, “Food and drink can save the world. It probably won’t, but I’m willing to give it the old college try.” Find more of Louis’ reviews for Bristol Bites here. He also writes for simplelampoon.com.
A whole roast suckling pig is a wonderful sight for a carnivorous-minded gourmand to behold, and I’ve invited a group of Bristol food-lovers to join me in seeing it. The New Moon has been building a solid reputation for serving consistently tasty dishes from every cuisine on the atlas, but tonight chef TK will need to channel medieval Englishness in order to pull this feast off.

Any paternal aversions to tucking into what looks like an alternate ending to Babe dissipate as soon as I hear the crunch TK’s knife, as it delves through crisp skin, yielding meat, and into a large mass of stuffing.

My savage looking plate may look like I was purely going for shock value, but that is completely, partly false. Having previously enjoyed confit jowls at The Bank Tavern a week earlier, I was aching for some melting porcine cheeks to satisfy my freshly acquired addiction. This little head didn’t disappoint.
The stuffing inside has been pre-wrapped in a bacon, and then placed in the cavity before roasting, which creates a deeply flavoured, rustic terrine. The potatoes have a wonderful crust to them, and the gravy ties it all together- although we could have used a bigger jug!

All I can say is that all the food (piglet based and otherwise) went down very nicely indeed. Everyone was served at the same time as their co-diners; not an easy task for a small team of servers, and the last sip of wine was downed just as the bill arrived.
Book now for the New Moon’s Christmas menu, or, if your tongues are over indulged on festive mouthfuls, just pop in for a few of the standard tapas dishes. Just remember one thing: no one leaves this place not having been well fed.
