Bristol is an inspirational city when it comes to food, and the Bristol Food Connections Festival highlights this fact.
Following their international conference in London last year, the Sustainable Food Trust will be bringing the True Cost Accounting debate to the Bristol public. At 6:30pm on the 6th of May they will be at Bristol’s Paintworks to ask why our economic system makes it more profitable to produce food in ways that damage the environment and our health, instead of rewarding methods of production that deliver benefits?
Chaired by Xanthe Clay, food writer for The Telegraph, with special guest speakers including SFT Chief Executive, Patrick Holden, Dill Peeling, Campaign Director at Compassion in World Farming and Simon Crichton, from Triodos Bank, the evening will cover the principles of true cost accounting for food and farming, the true cost of our cheap meat habit, the impacts of our global diet on public health, and the need for financial systems that support the real cost of food production. Speakers will be followed by a lively debate and discussion with the audience.
The evening will be rounded off with a light buffet and drinks reception, included in the ticket price.
A limited number of concessions are available for students, farmers and growers. For more details, contact Ellie Athanasis at ellie@sustainablefoodtrust.org.
This event will be an exciting opportunity to learn more about the workings of our global food system, from leaders of the UK sustainable food movement.
Tickets are priced at £20 per head, and are now on sale. You can buy tickets by clicking here.
