The Bristol Hotel has launched a vintage-styled afternoon tea, served on a three-tier tray, with a plate each item that we expect and love of a traditional tea: sandwiches, scones and cakes! The vintage-styled afternoon tea is all delivered to a table in their River Lounge with its stunning Harbourside views, alongside a freshly-brewed pot of tea served in pretty cups and saucers.
The bottom plate of the cake stand includes finger sandwiches of smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and cress, and ham and tomato. In the middle are scones, served with clotted Cornish cream and miniature jars of Wilkin & Son strawberry jam. The top plate is reserved for their pastry chef’s daily creations, such as cream-filled meringues, lemon drizzle cake and chocolate fairy cakes.
You can choose from a range of Clipper Estate teas, served in old-style china pots, but they recommend choosing Assam, Darjeeling, Earl Grey or Lapsang Souchong in keeping with tradition. Alternatively – or as well as – you can sip on a Hendricks Gin cocktail or a glass of Champagne: perfect for turning traditional afternoon tea into even more of a special occasion!
Traditional afternoon tea costs £17.50 per person, with a Hendricks Gin cocktail adding £5 to the price and a glass of house Champagne adding £7.50 to the price. Tea is served in The River Lounge from 2pm to 6pm, daily. The Bristol Hotel are also able to offer a gluten-free afternoon tea, but this must be pre-ordered a few days in advance.
