It’s hard to ignore the increasing number of vegan selections on menus these days, whether it’s at the corner coffee shop or the restaurant at one of the most prestigious cultural arts centres in Great Britain. And nowhere is this growing trend more evident than at Bristol’s Watershed, which PETA has just named one of the top five vegan-friendly cultural arts venues in the UK.

“We give Watershed three cheers for mastering the art of finely prepared vegan food”, says PETA’s Mimi Bekhechi. “All five cultural arts venues on PETA’s list are helping patrons choose meals that are as delicious as they are good for our health, the Earth and animals.”

Topping PETA favourites are the chickpea patties with wilted spinach and carrot and coriander puree. Another big crowd pleaser is the Vegetable Coconut Curry served with infused Basmati rice, flaked almonds, papads and mango chutney. Other specialities include the roast Crown Prince squash baguette, and a mezze board served with chargrilled artichokes, olives, sundried tomatoes, roast squash, hummus, carrot and coriander dip with toasted pitta. Watershed also offers a variety of other delicious vegan meals throughout the day.

Rounding out the top five vegan-friendly cultural arts venues are Komedia in Bath, Chapter in Cardiff, QUAD in Derby and the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal.

People are going vegan for a variety of reasons. Vegans are less prone to cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and obesity than meat-eaters are. Vegan meals are also kinder to the Earth, since factory farming is a major contributor to greenhouse-gas emissions, soil erosion and water pollution. And of course, going vegan spares animals immense suffering on factory farms, in abattoirs and on the decks of fishing boats.
