Eat.Drink.Dance in association with The Island Bristol will be hosting a fantastic Christmas night market and street food event combining local beer, artists, great food, music and all other things part of the thriving alternative culture of Bristol. The event is on the 6th of December at The Island, Courtyard, Bristol, taking place from 5pm to 12am.
Says Ursula Hutchinson of street food vendor ASIA POP!, and organiser of this event, “The concept behind this street market is a social gathering encompassing local street food vendors with independent beer breweries to create a night market. We want to make this into a regular social event taking over abandoned buildings or courtyards and bringing them alive not just with great food and drink but with local artists, crafts people and musicians and DJ’s over one night or day, as an alternative way to encourage people to get out of their houses on a Friday or Saturday night.”

Beer will be provided by the New Bristol Brewery, and DJs confirmed so far are Black Amiga, Kinky Movement, Steptoe, Alex Talossa, EFA and extra guests, who will be playing special Eat.Drink.Dance sets on the day.
The event aims to attract a wide variety of Bristol’s community and encourages participation and a following to promote community cohesion. Says Ursula, “We want to put a festival feel into eating out, which is what night markets are about, creating a buzz and bringing people together over exciting, great quality food and music.”
The Island is a fantastic venue for such an event due to its interesting history. What was once a police station is now a thriving arts and events space. It hosts a wide variety of creative spaces from circus training, dance and rehearsal rooms, making spaces and artists studios to dark rooms, recording studios, a gallery, sound production studios and a suite of early 20th century police cells. The Island is part of Artspace Lifespace Project, an artist led initiative that recycles vacant, under-used and problem properties into thriving active creative resources.
