Cooking with beer and cider

Stuck for the perfect present for those difficult to buy for? Do you love great beer and cider yourself and enjoy experimenting with new ingredients. Then look no further.

The South West’s fastest growing brewery – Butcombe – has produced a recipe book entitled ‘Cooking with beer and cider’, filled with beautifully photographed recipe ideas for starters, mains and puddings using Butcombe beer or Ashton Press cider as a key ingredient to complement the flavours within each dish.

This forty-page, 23cm by 23cm, glossy paperback cookery book, illustrates the finished dish alongside each recipe. Guest recipes can be found from Cotswold farmer and television presenter Adam Henson, and Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton. The book is produced by Ian Salisbury, a Bristol-based chef who has designed all beer related artwork for the Brewery for the past ten years.

All the recipes in the book are designed to be quick to prepare and easy to execute and much research was undertaken to match the perfect beer or cider within each dish. For example, Butcombe’s pale, well carbonated Blond was selected for use in the ‘Prawns in beer tempura’ whereas the full-bodied, bittersweet Brunel IPA was deemed faultless to complement the rich cocoa and sweetness of the ‘Brunel’s chocolate cake’.

Guy Newell, Butcombe’s managing director comments: “This book is a great present for anyone who enjoys experimenting with new ingredients and will be of particular interest to those who already enjoy our wide range of beers and ciders.”

‘Cooking with Beer and Cider’ will be available through approximately 70 Tesco stores in and around Bristol from September 2013 priced at £9.95. It will also be available through 18 Butcombe pubs as well as via the Brewery’s online shop.
