Cake on Bedminster Parade, next to the library, has now departed – and in its place is a branch of the Hungarian-born “fresh baked pastry franchise”, Fornetti.
The company was founded in 1997 as a family business, producing frozen bakery products from a townhouse in Kecskemét. Since then, the operation has grown significantly, and Fornetti’s products are offered in thousands of stores all over Europe.
The Bristol franchise, at 5 Bedminster Parade, opened on June 6th, offering customers the chance to buy both sweet and savoury pastries to eat in or take away, alongside slices of pizza, hot drinks, soft drinks and a selection of cakes.
Large counters showcase the pastries (known as Fornetti) available, with savoury fillings including cream cheese, ham and cheese, chicken, pizza cream and more. Those looking for a sweet option can try apple and vanilla pudding, apricot or strawberry and yoghurt, to name but a few.
When I visited, a special opening deal saw mini Fornetti being offered for 25p each, with the large priced between £1.19 and £1.25. Croissants were priced at 95p, while slices of pizza (and they were big slices!) were available for just £1.30.
