Kristjan and Alexis, the team behind the successful and popular Mi Casa pop up, will begin a three month residency this Spring taking over the daily kitchen operation at the Big Chill Bar on Small Street, central Bristol.
Mi Casa chef Alexis will be drawing inspiration and experience from her North American roots to create a menu focused on the mighty US style sandwich. Alexis was born in Canada, but spent much of her time travelling through the East coast and Southern states of the US. Visiting family and friends is where she discovered her love of the American deli/diner phenomenon. Think Katz Deli NYC, Pickney Cafe & Espresso (Charleston, South Carolina), Memphis BBQ, Austin Tex-Mex, and the Po’Boy.
Expect menu items such as the Reuben – a mighty sandwich of sauerkraut, Comte cheese and thousand island dressing on toasted sourdough. Enjoy a mini grilled cheese sourdough sandwich and a cup of creamy tomato soup. Their take on the Canadian classic of poutine – chips with a peppercorn gravy and Westcombe cheese curds – will also be on the menu, and I’m intrigued to find out what their “Wall Of Sauce” will be!
Eat in, takeaway and delivery will all be available, and make sure you follow them on Twitter at @micasapopup to find out details of their daily specials.
Mi Casa at The Big Chill will be open from 11am – 7pm Monday to Thursday, and 11am – 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to trying it out!
