A slight deviation from the normal “first Monday of the month” spot for January 2013’s food quiz, which will now be taking place from 8pm on Monday, January 14th.
The quiz – hosted by me at Totterdown venue The Star & Dove once a month – always proves to be a lively occasion, with five rounds of food and drink-themed questions and interactive elements challenging even the most dedicated foodie.
A general food and drink knowledge round, a picture round and a round featuring ten questions on a specialist subject (which changes every time) sit alongside two rounds devised by the team at The Star & Dove. The first of these interactive rounds sees each team being presented with appetisers, with quizzers being challenged to name all five flavours that the appetiser contains. The “name the ingredients” round also proves popular – a slate containing ten different food and drink items is brought out to each team, who have to use their powers of sight, smell and taste to identify as many as possible.
The top three teams on the night will each receive a voucher to spend on food at The Star & Dove, valid for a week after the date of the quiz.
The popularity of the quiz has grown to such an extent over the last few months that there have been very few – if any – tables in the function room that have not been prebooked. This is all set to change on the 14th, however: a brand new PA system at The Star & Dove means that teams will be able to sit in any of the pub’s three rooms and still take part.
