Catering students from City of Bristol College were given the chance to quiz the godfather of modern cooking, Marco Pierre White, during his latest visit to the South West.
The celebrity chef was making one of his regular trips to his steakhouse bar and grill, which is located at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House in Congresbury and was commemorating its second anniversary.
During his visit the students were able to meet the man dubbed the original enfant terrible to find out what inspired him to become the youngest British chef to attain three Michelin stars, and to gain an insight into what it takes to become a top cook and restaurateur.
The students also helped out in the kitchen preparing canapes for guests who were there to enjoy the atmosphere and dine in the restaurant.
Mimmo Pomo, restaurant manager said: “It’s always great to see Marco. Every time he visits there’s a real buzz of excitement. He has such a presence and proves a real inspiration to both the kitchen and front of house teams.
“It was also great for the students to not only help prepare the canapes for paying guests but to meet the great man himself. Marco is a great advocate when it comes to the next generation of cooks and chefs and is always prepared to give time to those who are passionate about food.
“Having come from humble beginnings, Marco is passionate about inspiring students and we hope they will be even more motivated to do well in the future – you never know, we may just have in our midst the next Marco Pierre White, right here in the South West.”
Opened in September 2010, the restaurant has already become a popular venue for the region’s foodies serving a range of classic British dishes in the glamorous setting of the region’s premier four-star hotel.
Adrian Kirikmaa, Restaurant Manager at City of Bristol College, added: “Marco Pierre White is one of the most influential chefs the UK has ever produced and it has been a great opportunity for our students to meet and work with him. As these are next generation of culinary experts it’s our duty to boost their confidence and introduce them to industry related work experience such as this event.”
